As an amateur poker player, Dennis Phillips qualified for the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event through a $200 satellite at Harrah’s St. Louis. Phillips headed into the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event final table as chip leader with 26,295,000 in chips, and finished in 3rd place, earning $4,517,773.
The 2008 WSOP was the first time the main event stopped play resulting in Phillips becoming the Original Chipleader during it’s 117-day hiatus. This time allowed Phillips to cultivate his brand better known now as the “Phillipians” when over 300 of his family and friends all adorned in white shirts and red hats joined him at the final table in November.
Now a member of the PokerStars Team Pro, he has fast become one of the new ambassadors to the poker community, traveling to poker tournaments and PR engagements in England, Monaco, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay – not to mention Atlantic City, Los Angeles, in the US. Through his regular-guy persona, he continues to earn the respect of pros & amateurs alike, becoming a poker playing favorite to fans and media alike.
In the 2009 World Series of Poker Phillips followed his 3rd place title by finishing 45th, winning $178,857. His back-to-back top 50 finishes ranks as one of WSOP’s all-time top achievements in number of opponents dispatched at 13,290. In Dennis’s first two years of playing tournament poker, his total live winnings exceed $4,800,000.
